Listen to the Radio

This assignment is due Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 by 11:59 pm.

Broadcast Video Production students have an assignment: Listen to the Radio! No, I don't mean Pandora or Slacker. Listen to AM or FM radio this week and over the weekend. Especially notice morning drive shows (6:00 - 10:00 am). I want you to focus on the DJs and/or hosts of a segment, and listen to the content. Notice how everything is structured and timed to the second. Keep your own radio show in mind while you listen. How do you want your show to sound? How will you fill in dead air? Here's a list of stations from which to choose:

Star 94 - 94.1 FM
B98 - 98.5 FM
WSB Radio - 95.5 FM and 750 AM
GPB Radio (NPR, All Things Considered, etc) - 90.1 FM
Q100 (The Bert Show) 99.7 FM

Once you've gotten a good idea about what your listening to, write a blog about the stations you listened to, the DJs and their method of delivery, and all the other people who are involved in making their show a success. Write a thoughtful blog based on the following question and reply to at least 2 classmates' blogs:

"What did you like the most about the stations' programming (content) and the host(s) method of delivery? How will you incorporate the qualities of these shows into your own show?"

The contant I like of Star 94 is the comdey aspect of it. It had a certain humor to it and was not all that serious. the DJ was enegrtic and funny. he created jokes that were funny before introducing the music. I'm doing commericals so i don't have to devilry the way the DJ did but I will add a little humor to the commericals if needed

    1. I agree. The DJ is a comedian. I like they way he sets up his performance. He keeps his audience entertained and plays good music. I can take pointers on how he is playing the comedian side and the professional side at the same time.

    2. They do have a comedic aspect of the show that is very admirable and will keep the listeners interest. It is an aspect that we should all consider.

I tuned in to GPB Radio (NPR, All Things Considered, etc) - 90.1 FM this afternoon as i was going home. I found this starting to be very informative. I gave me updates on news that i had not even heard about before because i don't watch the news that often. The host of the show sounds very professional. He also sounded like he has much knowledge of the information going on in the world right now.

    1. When i turned into the station of Q100(The Bert Show) 99.7FM this afternoon i have notice that they play alot of old mixed with the new country songs. The DJ seems excited and confident about what his listeners want to hear and are listening to. He has an great spirit.By turning into this station i get to hear all the updates on the country singers, like when a famous singer is going to have a concert and i get a chance to win tickets to see them at a certain time. I also get to hear how the weather is going to be and if there is trafic or not.

    2. I agree. The host is giving very factual information on the world today. He tells facts that are happening as people may know it or not. I like this station, because its kinda like another news channel but just radio form.

  4. I listened to wsb radio and was kind of uninterested. What I mean is that they don't tell you when they are going into a commercial break. Also it's not what I enjoy listening to because the host is not being live about the show. However, I do like how they go straight into topics and not get side tracked. In my show, I would sure all of my topics are discussed early and do more with the extra time.

    1. I like their consistency as well chris, however, I think that sometimes they just have to many techincal miscommunications that come out in the show. Hence the lack of warning for the commercial breaks.

  5. I was listening to Q100 and I enjoyed their show even though I normally don't like talk radio. I've been listening to them for years and I love them! Everything is very interesting and witty and organized. I love the charities they do as well and the way they incorporate their personal stories into the show without throwing things off.!!!
